The Story Behind Jen’s Story

A breast cancer diagnosis at the height of Covid in New York City would have been enough on its own. But for Jen, it became the beginning of a series of battles in a war she never asked to fight. What followed wasn’t just a fight against cancer—it would become an epic war against governmental overreach, institutional injustice, and systemic failures that made her own survival feel like an isolated act of stubborn defiance.

Jen didn’t choose this war. It arrived unexpected, uninvited, indifferent, and unforgiving. And when she understood that silence and deference would cost her more than her voice—that they would steal her autonomy, her freedom, and possibly her life—she made a deliberate choice.

She refused to conform to the nonsensical.

Her work continues to be raw, vulnerably honest, and driven by a deep commitment to exposing what happens when ordinary people are pushed into extraordinary fights. If her stories do anything, she hopes they show that strength doesn’t always look loud or heroic. Sometimes it is simply refusing to give up when everything and everyone is telling you to. She remains firm in her belief that people have far more power over their own lives than they might think
